LAKE CITY, S.C. (WBTW) – Whether it was for the art on the walls, or the live music echoing throughout, a little rain was never going to keep those in Lake City from celebrating the kickoff of Artfields 2016 Friday.
This is the fourth year that the festival has taken over downtown Lake City. It since become one of the premier festivals of its kind in the Southeast.
Participants like Kevan Hoertdoefer, architect from Charleston, came from all over the Carolinas to create new and exciting art pieces for the festival.
“The community has donated material, volunteered, been highly supportive and encouraging throughout the entire process,” he said. “It’s been way above and beyond any expectations.”
Friday’s opening ceremonies were moved inside due to bad weather, but that didn’t dampen any spirits as the festival got underway.
“Your work and the work of other artists being valued at this level and elevated in this way…that is really very exciting,” said artist Natalie Daise.
And while it is a contest, many artists felt like they had already won getting to experience the festival and all that Lake City has to offer.
“Artfields in Lake City is a hidden gem that will hopefully be discovered more and more in the years to come,” said Hoertdoefer.
