CONWAY (WBTW) – High Point defeated Coastal Carolina 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at Springs Brooks Stadium. The Chants had their win streak snapped at nine games.
The game was a pitchers’ duel through six complete as the teams combined for 15 strikeouts and just five hits. Coastal got a strong pitching performance from Alex Cunningham. He had nine strikeouts on the day. However, he would allow two runs in the seventh and two in the eighth while surrendering eight hits and walking two.
In addition to CCU’s team loss, two impressive individual streaks for Chanticleers came to an end Saturday. Connor Owings had his 18-game hit streak end while Billy Cooke was kept off the basepaths, ending a streak of 20 consecutive games of reaching base safely (hit/walk/hit by pitch).
The Panthers and Chanticleers will be back in action tomorrow. First pitch is set for 2 pm.
