Divas Half Marathon road closures

North Myrtle Beach, SC – April 29, 2016 – The May 1 Divas Half Marathon route may require those who attend the following places of worship to access them via alternate roads: Church of the Lost and Found, Trinity Methodist Church, Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church, Barefoot Church, Lakeside Baptist Church, King of Glory Lutheran Church, St. Stephens Episcopal Church.

On the morning of May 1, half marathon participants will be running along the main routes where these churches are located at about the following times:

• Church of the Lost and Found:
  • 6:45am-7:30am – Northbound land Ocean Blvd shut down. Enter Ocean Blvd from 6^th Avenue North.

• Trinity United Methodist Church:
  • 7:20 a.m.-8:15 a.m. – Half marathon participants should be running north on Hillside Drive and will be crossing 14^th Avenue South.

• Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church:
  • 7:00 a.m.-7:15 a.m. – Participants should be running south on Ocean Boulevard. 7:30 a.m.-8:30 a.m. – Participants should be running north on Hillside Drive.

• Barefoot Church:
  • 7:30 a.m.-8:45 a.m. – Participants should be running up the west bound lane of Main Street and turning right on to Ye Olde Kings Highway.

• Lakeside Baptist Church, King of Glory Lutheran Church, St. Stephens Episcopal Church:
  • 7:50 a.m.-9:45 a.m. – The westbound lane of 11^th Avenue North will be closed to vehicle traffic. All runners should have cleared 11^th Avenue North by 10:00 a.m.

The Divas® Half Marathon & 5K will be held in North Myrtle Beach on Sunday, May 1.

The Divas® 5K will start at 7:00 a.m., and the Divas® Half Marathon will follow at 7:10 a.m. Both races will start on Ocean Boulevard just south of Main Street and finish on Main Street.

The Divas® Half Marathon Series is held annually in some of the country’s best vacation destinations: Honolulu, HI; Long Island, NY; San Juan, PR; San Francisco, CA; and North Myrtle Beach, SC. will feature a 13.1 mile loop course starting and finishing Ocean Blvd just south of Main Street. The events will start at 7:00am with the Divas 5K, and the Divas Half Marathon will follow at 7:10am.

The event will follow a rolling road closure, which means that traffic will be affected for a short period before the first runner enters a section of road and ends when the last runner leaves that section. North Myrtle Beach Police will reopen roads as soon as race course operations cease, with the half marathon course officially closing by 11:00am.

The following roads will be affected by the half marathon route during the designated times as stated below:

Ocean Boulevard N from 20th Ave N to 5th Ave N

Southbound lane closest to curb will be closed from 7:00am until 11:00am. Southbound thru traffic will be diverted to US17 at 8th Ave N from 6:30am to 7:45am. Starting at 7:45am southbound thru traffic will be able to continue south using the center lane. No right turns will be allowed from 7:00am to 11:00am in this section.

Ocean Boulevard N from 5th Ave N to Main Street

Southbound lane closest to curb will be closed from 7:00am until 10:40am. Southbound thru traffic will be diverted to US17 at 8th Ave N from 6:30am to 7:45am. Starting at 7:45am southbound thru traffic will be able to continue south using the center lane.  No right turns will be allowed from 7:00am to 11:00am in this section.

Ocean Boulevard S from Main St to 17th Ave S

All southbound lanes will be closed from 6:45am through 7:45am

Ocean Boulevard S from 17th Ave S to 25th Ave S

All southbound lanes will be closed from 6:45am through 7:55am

Hillside Drive N from 16th Ave N to 5th Ave N

Northbound lanes of Hillside Drive N will be closed from 7:40am to 9:30am.

Hillside Drive N from 5th Ave N to Main Street

Northbound lanes of Hillside Drive N will be closed from 7:05am to 9:20am.

Hillside Drive S from Main Street to 5th Ave S

All lanes will be closed from 7:00am to 8:50am (All local traffic is urged to use EXTREME caution and yield to runners on road)

Hillside Drive S from 5th Ave Street to 25th Ave S

Northbound lane will be closed from 7:20am to 8:35am (All local traffic is urged to use EXTREME caution and yield to runners on road)

All east/westbound streets between 16th Ave N and Main Street and between Ocean Blvd and Hillside Drive S will have intermittent traffic crossings at Hillside Drive and Ocean Blvd from 7:00am to

11:00am.  Expect delays if traveling to or from that quadrant.

All east/westbound streets between Main Street and 25 Ave S and between Ocean Blvd and Hillside Drive S will have intermittent traffic crossings at Hillside Drive and Ocean Blvd from 7:00am to

8:50am. Expect delays if travelling to or from that quadrant.

20th Ave North from Surf Pointe Drive to Spring Street

Eastbound lanes of 20th Ave North will be closed from 8:15am to 10:30am. Local residents should exit homes onto the westbound lane on 20th Ave N. Residents on the south side of 20th Ave please use

extreme caution when exiting your home making a left turn to get on the westbound lane and please wait for a gap between runners.

US17 (North Kings Highway) from 11st Ave N to Starwatch Drive

Northbound lane closest to the curb will be closed from 7:00am to 10:10am

Starwatch Drive/Lake Egret/East Island/Surf Watch/Surf Estates/Sand Court/Surf Pointe Drive

All lanes on the above named roads will be closed from 8:00am to 10:20m. Local residents need to use extreme caution while exiting their homes and use neighborhood exit on US 17.

16th Ave North/Prince William Road/Princess Ann Drive

Westbound lane will be closed from 7:50am to 9:40am. Local residents should exit on 11th Ave, south to Hillside, then east to 8th Ave N toward US17 to exit the area.

11th Ave North from Princess Ann Drive to US 17

Westbound lane will be closed from 8:00am to 10:00. Local residents should use the eastbound lane to Hillside then south on Hillside to 8th Ave N towards US17 to exit the area.

2nd Ave N from Ye Olde King Rd to Hillside Drive N

All eastbound lanes will be closed from 7:05am to 9:10am. Local residents on the south side of 2nd Ave N should exit their homes by making a left onto westbound 2nd Ave N and they should wait for gaps in between runners before crossing 2nd Ave N.

Main Street from Ocean to Hillside Drive

All westbound lanes of Main Street will be closed from Saturday, April 30 at 3:30pm to noon on Sunday, May 1.

Main Street from Hillside Drive to Ye Olde King Rd

All westbound lanes will be closed from 7:00am to 9:00am

Edge Drive South (between 20th Ave S and 16th Ave S)

Northbound lane will be closed from 7:25am going until 8:20am

25th Ave South (from Ocean Blvd to Hillside Drive S)

All Lanes will be closed from 7:10am going until 8:05am. We ask residents and businesses to follow the detours and plan an earlier start during those times to avoid delays and for safety purposes.
