LORIS, SC (WBTW) – Horry County police arrested a Loris man after a child showed up at school with bruising from an assault.
According to a police report, Lonnie Leroy Cartrette, 40, struck a 6-year-old child in the head with his hand. When the boy came back to school after missing 3 days of classes, the teacher noticed bruising on his forehead and left side of his face.
The boy told police that the 7 foot tall, 300 pound Cartrette struck him in the head, causing him to fall against a wall. Cartrette then began beating the boy with a belt all over, the report said.
The boy was placed in protective custody by the South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS).
Cartrette is charged with unlawful neglect of a child. He currently remains in jail under a $5,000 bond.
