HORRY COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – The 16th Circuit Solicitor’s Office will prosecute the case against a man who police say killed an Horry County woman in 2014.
16th Circuit Solicitor Kevin Brackett confirmed to News13 Wednesday afternoon his office will take over the case against Randy Gale Robinson, 48. Robinson is charged with murder and obstruction of justice in the death of Angie Pipkin, 32.
South Carolina Chief Deputy Attorney General John McIntosh requested the change in prosecution in a letter dated April 26. In the letter, McIntosh specifically requested Brackett’s office to resume responsibility.
An order filed by Administrative Judge Larry Hyman in late March recused the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office from the case.
Officials say an attorney who now works for the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office used to work for the public defender’s office. Those close to the case say there was concern the attorney may have known confidential information given to him while representing other clients.
The order, however, stated no evidence was found that signals the attorney saw any confidential information.
Authorities say Robinson killed Pipkin and disposed of her dismembered body at a Landing on the Great Pee Dee River in Darlington County.
Pipkin was last seen on January 16, 2014 getting into a car at the IGA on Main Street in Aynor, officials say. She was later seen on security cameras around 9:30 p.m. at the Wilco Food Mart at 6222 Highway 707 in Myrtle Beach.
On May 14, 2014, investigators announced remains found in East Florence off Paper Mill Road belonged to Pipkin.
