NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)- North Myrtle Beach Spokesperson Pat Dowling told News13 a bank robbery occurred at South State Bank, located at 606 Main Street, Wednesday morning around 11:00.

Dowling says three suspects fled the bank in a car heading south on Highway 17. The robbers continued through the area of Barefoot Landing where their car was stop-sticked somewhere in the vicinity of Water Tower Road.

“I started hearing the pop pop because all my windows were down and next thing I know I look to my left and a car was going at a high speed just firing directly at me,” Melvin Fields said.

Fields says he was on the phone with a client as he pulled into the Dye Estates at Barefoot Resort. He says that’s when he drove by the suspects who shot at him.

“I laid down immediately in my seat. It is scary. It’s not something you really want to be in. I am concealed weapon permit holder. Had it on me and pulled it out. I didn’t know what was going to happen but I didn’t have to use it,” Fields said.

Fields told News13 he counted at least three shots fired at him but none hit him. He believes they went through his Hummer and that’s why he wanted to make police aware of what happened.

“Hopefully the law can prosecute them for anything they can because what they’ve done is endanger the public and myself as well. Somebody needs to speak up if they’ve got more information.”

Spokesman Pat Dowling says all three suspects connected with the armed robbery have been caught and are now residing in the North Myrtle Beach jail.
