Have You Heard, actor James Dean died 60 years ago today (9/30/1955).
It’s hard to envision that Dean would be 84 if he were alive.
He died in a car wreck in Chalome, California, which is in the south-central part of the state.
The California Highway Patrol says Dean was speeding when his Porsche hit another car.
A passenger in the car with Dean, his Porsche-trained mechanic Rolf Wütherich, survived with serious injuries. However, 26 years later Wütherich also died in a car wreck.
“The Flintstones” is generally regarded as the first prime-time cartoon series. It premiered 55 years ago today on ABC and ran for six seasons.
Singer Johnny Mathis is 80 years old today.
Two baseball Hall of Famers collected their 3,000th hit on September 30.
George Brett hit his 3000th in Anaheim 23 years ago today against the California Angels, and then got picked off first base!
Brett finished his career with 3,154 hits and is now 62 years old.
Roberto Clemente got his 3000th hit 43 years ago today in his home park in Pittsburgh against the New York Mets. Although he got four hits in the 1972 National League championship series, the 3000th hit was his final regular season hit.
Clemente died three months later in a plane crash during a humanitarian mission to Nicaragua, where he helped earthquake victims.
The last Wednesday in September is always “Ask a Stupid Question Day,” but there are no stupid questions (at least that’s what many say), just stupid answers.
You can see “Have You Heard” each weeknight after weather on News13 at 11:00.
