The forecast has cancelled a lot of events in Myrtle Beach, and while some people are scrambling to make preparations for the storm, others were busy coming up with alternatives for folks heading to town this weekend.

One of the biggest events to be canceled was the Carolina Sessions Reggae Music Festival.

“I think we were as disappointed as everybody was, the beach was looking forward to a big weekend with this show coming,” said Boyd Cooke.

Instead of the old pavillion site filled with reggae fans, preparations have been abandoned and the concert postponed.

“We haven’t been told but we’re told sometime in the spring of 2016,” said Cooke.

Cooke manages the Boathouse, which was tapped for the pre-party on Friday, “that has not changed, we’re still going forward with our 5 bands”

And Cooke says, there is a a possiblity for more, “currently we are talking with festival promoters to have some of the bigger bands here. We don’t want to say its happening for sure on Saturday ,but 99.9% sure/”

Cooke says they’re putting in the effort, because people are still headed to the beach, “just trying to give them an avenue to enjoy their reggae weekend.”

The reggae festival is just one of many canceled event that had expected to draw big crowds to the Grand Strand.

“Some of them are still trying to come to town to do other things,” said Jamie Jurcisin.

Jurcisin works at Oceans One Resort and spent the day Thursday, answering calls regarding the weather.

“It’s definetly impacted the business,” she said.

Jurcisin says a lot of guests have cancelled, but just as many have questions, “we know as much as the weather people, I always tell people because it could pass right by us and they miss out on a great vacation”.

For people who rely on tips, the cancellations came as bad news, “I will still be working but we’ll probably have slower business,” said Allison Martin.

Martin is a server at the 8th Aveune Tiki Bar & Grill, big weekend events affect home much money she takes home.

“They help us through the slow season,” said Martin.

But instead of a concert or Oktoberfest bringing in crowds, Martin says she’s in for “less money, less tips, and more sitting down than working.

The fall is busy season for big events, so there had been plenty planned for the weekend. Click here for the complete cancellation list.
