Myrtle Beach, SC – Lil Tokyo prepared Kanisu (Cucumber Wrap) for today’s Budget Gourmet. Lil Tokyo is one of more than 50 restaurants that will participate in the Taste of the Town this year. Frankie Fnu is the restaurant’s Sushi Chef.
Recipe: Kanisu (Cucumber Wrap)
Crab Meat—approx. 3 sticks
Avocado—approx. 3 slices
Cucumber—approx. half
Slice around the outside of the cucumber making a spiral until you reach the heart of the cucumber. Cut out the heart (inside) and set aside. Roll the avocado with some of the crab meat. Lay out the cucumber like a sheet of paper and cut off the skin. Fill inside portion with some crab meat. Roll the crab and avocado in the cucumber. Use skin and heart of cucumber for décor.
In 1984, a creative group of parents organized the first Taste of the Town as a fundraiser for St. Andrew Catholic School. The fledgling event made its debut hosting about 20 restaurants, it was well-attended, and the event gained immediate popularity in the Myrtle Beach community.
Now in its 32nd year, Taste of the Town features 50+ restaurants, culinary awards, live entertainment, and is poised as one of the Grand Strand area’s most highly anticipated food festivals. Over the past several years, attendance of this one-night event has soared to 8,000 – 10,000 locals and visitors. Taste of the Town’s growing success is greatly made possible by the generous contributions of local businesses through various levels of sponsorship.
