Coast Guard rescues 1 injured boater, 2 others near Myrtle Beach

LITTLE RIVER, SC (WBTW) – The US Coast Guard and Horry County Fire Rescue were called to a disabled boat just offshore near Little River Friday morning.

Petty Officer 2nd Class Anthony Soto says watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Charleston command center received a distress call from the boaters around 9:45 a.m. tommys-girlThe boaters reported the bow of their vessel was damaged and that the boat was taking on water. They also reported one of the people aboard suffered a leg injury and was having a hard time breathing.

According to Brian Van Arnem with HCFR, three people were rescued approximately 11 miles east of Myrtle Beach and were flown by a Coast Guard helicopter to the Myrtle Beach International Airport with injuries. From the airport, the three people were transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Crews from Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston, Coast Guard Station Georgetown and tommys-girl3Horry County Fire and Rescue marine unit responded to the call, adds Officer Soto.
