DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – A family in Darlington County suffered severe damage to their home because of flooding.
The rain that came down on Saturday morning flooded the ditch beside a home on Williams Road and the water from it soon started creeping up and under the foundation.
“It’s a mess up on my rugs. Everything I had on the floor is messed up,” explained Vann Williams as she looked around at the damage to her home.
The rain and flood caught Vann Williams and her daughter Clementine by surprise.
“I said oh my god! That’s all I could say. What am I going to do now,” Williams said.
Williams and her daughter used towels and buckets to clean up the water from the inside of their home. Williams tells News 13 that since the flooding filled two cars in her driveway they both won’t start.
The family tried to salvage what they could, but quickly learned some things couldn’t be saved.
“We lost a lot of clothing, shoes, furniture is going to be demolished..,” said Clementine Wall as she looked at her mother in disbelief.
The flooding brought in more than six inches of water into their home and crayfish.
”I couldn’t get up to get no baby bottle, milk, and stuff,” explained Williams.
“It’s just really spooky and knowing that it’s going to rain even more,” added Wall.
The ditch that flooded the property is more than a mile long and the water is knee deep.
“That’s a cause for more rain damage tonight,” said Wall.
So with no working air or heating unit staying with relatives is the only option left.
In more than 50 years of living in their homes, the Williams told News 13 they have never experienced such devastating flood damage.
