Have You Heard, today (10/14) is Take Your Parents to Lunch Day.

Today also marks 89 years since English author A.A. Milne’s first “Winnie the Pooh” book was published. Milne named his most-famous character after his son’s teddy bear.

Exactly one year later (10/14/1927), English actor Sir Roger Moore was born. Among Moore’s credits, seven James Bond films.
Despite his numerous movie and television roles, Moore was never nominated for an Academy or Emmy Award.

Future war hero and president Dwight Eisenhower was born 125 years ago today. He passed away at the age of 78.

Bing Crosby was 76 when he died 38 years ago today.

Fashion designer Ralph Lauren is 76 today.

British singer Sir Cliff Richard is 75 today.
While many English acts equalled their UK success in the US, Richard was not one of them.
He recorded 14 number-one hits and 69 top-tens on the English charts.
In the U.S., Richard had three top-10s and no number-ones.

Former eight-term state Representative Jim Battle (D-Marion, 1997-2013) turns 73 today.

The Chicago Cubs won the 1908 World Series, four games to one, over the Detroit Tigers. The Cubs have not won a World Series since.
That series was the first to use four umpires, in alternating two-man teams.
Currently, Major League Baseball uses seven umpires, in alternating six-man teams.

President Reagan declared the “War on Drugs” 33 years ago today.
