Horry County giving gun manufacturer more time to pay rent

AYNOR, S.C. (AP) – Horry County officials say gun manufacturer PTR Industries has more time to pay $50,000 in overdue rent.

County Council Chairman Mark Lazarus tells The Sun News that the company is working things out and a county spokeswoman says the county expects payment within 60 days.

The county sent PTR a default notice in June that the company had 30 days to pay its rent on the building it leases in Aynor.

Company CEO Josh Fiorini says the repayment has been contingent upon PTR negotiating a loan agreement for a property it owns in Connecticut.

PTR moved from Connecticut to South Carolina in 2013 after lawmakers there enacted new gun policies after the Sandy Hook school shooting.

Horry County Officials say any incentives given to companies like PTR are contingent on contractual agreements between the company and the county.

According to PTR’s contract, the county invested $190,119 towards renovating the PTR plant in Aynor.
