MURRELLS INLET, SC (WBTW) Mary Ropp and Joseph Martinez are not your ordinary teenagers. This pair face the challenges of living a Christian life in the middle of a world with a different set of morals and values.

“Sometimes it can be a blessing and some times it can be a real struggle,” Ropp said.”

“Life is never easy being in high school,” Martinez said.

Fields of FaithThe two student-athletes from St. James High School are part of the group putting on the Fields of Faith event Wednesday night at the football field. They say they attended a leadership camp over the summer and saw this non-denominational, student led program going on in other parts of the country and wanted to bring it to their family and friends.

“When I accepted Christ, God changed my life forever. I think that as God lived on this Earth and as he loved people around him that’s the way I need to live my life too and it means so much to me,” Ropp said.

The non-denominational evening will feature worship from Journey Church, youth testimonies and a motivational speaker.

Joseph will be one of the speakers at the event. He says as the challenges of being a teenager and going to high school mount, he always falls back upon his faith to find strength. It’s something he wants to share with others.

“Through our testimonies we hope that students get a grip that they are not in this alone,” Martinez said.

Fields of Faith is a program that started in 2004 in just three states at 23 different locations. Just over a decade later there are almost 500 scheduled events across the states Wednesday night.

“i saw the impact it made on 500 other schools around America and I wanted to have that impact here on the Grand Strand,” Ropp said.

“It’s very challenging,” Martinez said of living Christian standards in today’s world. “But I love the challenge and knowing that I can get through every day with God is the most satisfying thing I can ever feel.”
