DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – Bond was denied for a Georgia teen who led police on a chase after fleeing from a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon on Interstate 20 in Darlington County.
According to Darlington County Sheriff Byrd, Jonathan Israel Lopez, 17, of Riverdale, GA, was arrested after fleeing a traffic stop on I-20 in Darlington County. Deputies with the Sheriff’s Special Enforcement Unit stopped Lopez for a minor traffic violation, adds Sheriff Byrd.
As deputies were approaching the vehicle, Lopez sped away. The 17-year-old led deputies on a pursuit from near the 137 mile marker on I-20 to the 170 mile marker on I-95 in Florence County, explains Sheriff Byrd. During the pursuit, Lopez threw a package from the vehicle. Deputies were able to recover that package and found a large amount of Methamphetamine.
Lopez has been charged with trafficking methamphetamine, failure to stop for a blue light, simple possession of marijuana and no SC driver’s license.
