MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Myrtle Beach Police have arrested a 24-year-old woman wanted for forgery after officers say she cashed a counterfeit check at the Aquarius Motel IV last month.

A police report obtained by News13, states Samantha Wiggins was staying at the Aquarius Motel IV in Myrtle Beach in September and asked the motel clerk to cash a check for just under $1800 on September 16. The clerk cashed the check and kept a portion of the money for Wiggins’ rent, according to the report.

A few days later, the clerk noticed the check was flagged as counterfeit by First Citizens Bank. The bank confirmed to police that the check was in fact counterfeit, so officers called the supposed issuer of the check, a law firm in Florida. Police note that an employee with the law firm explained that their account had been compromised months prior and they have been made aware of fraudulent checks supposedly issued from their firm being cashed across the country.

Officers released Wiggins’ photo to the public on October 12, and the forgery suspect was jailed October 19. Wiggins is charged with one count of forgery and is currently in the Myrtle Beach Jail.
