MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)-Many people across the state continue to try and get their homes and lives back in order after the recent flooding. Even as many places are still flooded, Horry county fire rescue says it still has concerns.

Within Horry county, there is a lot of undeveloped property with a lot of vegetation. Captain Tim Rainbolt said that makes the perfect recipe if something were to spark, it gets out of control very quickly with a lot of vegetation. He said Carolina Forest is one area in particular that they have to be extra careful about.

“When they’ve done fire wise they go through the assessments, when the ratings come back initially, yeah those ratings come back high that yes fires can go through there, the history of the area, the fires we’ve had throughout time and then the vegetation is extremely flammable.”

Rainbolt also said the Legends and Forestbrook areas also present a big risk for burning. He wants to remind people as you’re cleaning up your yards after the flood and getting rid of the debris, if you want to burn anything, you must call and get a burn permit.
