DARLINGTON, SC (WBTW) – While the Darlington Police Department continues to investigate the attempted child abduction at an apartment complex Monday morning, the police chief says they do not have any new leads in the case.

According to Chief Danny Watson, the attempted abduction happened in an apartment complex off Avenue D sometime before 8:00 a.m. Monday. Officers were dispatched to Bowen Manor Apartments in reference to a man, dressed in all black, trying to abduct a 12-year-old girl.

Wednesday morning at 9:38 a.m., Chief Watson posted on the Darlington Police Department Facebook page that investigators have no new information in the case.

I wished to just let everyone know that we are continuing work on the event that took place at Bowen’s Manor. We have not found any new information at this time to disseminate, but we are continuing to do everything possible to bring it to a successful closure.” – Chief Watson

The child was able to get away from the man by running and flagging down a passing motorist. The Darlington County Dog Team assisted in the search for the would-be kidnapper, however the subject was not located. The Darlington Police Department is actively investigating the incident and is asking anyone with information about the incident to please contact the police department at 843-398-4026 or to call 911.

Monday afternoon, Chief Watson released a statement on the department’s Facebook page regarding the incident that took place at Bowen’s Manor:

Be assured that everything in our power we can do to resolve this matter and identify this suspect are being made. Investigators have been assigned to the matter and have been working on it since very shortly after the incident occurred. Any new information that we find out will be made available immediately to other agencies, the news media and on this site. In any case such as this we need to be cautious yet at the same time do not panic. The best thing any parent can do in matters such as these are to warn their children of the potential of talking to strangers, what to do if they are in fact approached and to immediately notify authorities of any such event even if it appears to minor. Suspicious activity should be reported without delay so that the matter can be thoroughly investigated and hopefully lead to the identification and arrest of such individuals who mean our children harm.” – Chief Watson
