NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A North Myrtle Beach Police Sergeant remains in doctor’s care at the Medical University of South Carolina following the removal of a blood clot near her brain Wednesday evening.
The North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety revealed on its Facebook page Wednesday night that Sergeant Heather Swarthout was admitted into a hospital Wednesday morning, and then transferred to the Medical University of South Carolina and underwent surgery Wednesday evening to remove a blood clot near her brain.
The department shared an update on Sgt. Swarthout’s health from her family within the post:
“Heather is out of surgery. The surgeons successfully removed the major clot. There are still several small clots in the shallow smaller veins that they aren’t able to access at this point. They have put her on blood thinners in hopes to remove the other minor clots. Prognosis is still uncertain, put we are celebrating this milestone. There are still lots of unknowns at this time. Just continue to pray!!”
The surgeon gave a favorable report and now Sgt. Swarthout’s family and co-workers wait as they continue her treatment plan, the post reports. Her condition is still considered serious, but Sgt. Swarthout’s family is relieved to have some of the finest medical staff actively working on her recovery plan.
