WASHINGTON (MEDIA GENERAL) – Lawmakers on Capitol Hill face several self-inflicted deadlines regarding funding this year.
The debt ceiling is expected to hit November 3 and the government could shut down again on December 11, but the earliest deadline funds America’s Highway Trust Fund. Federal highways and transit systems receive large amounts of their funding from this program.
But, money is expected to run out on October 29, 2015.
Lawmakers are currently debating plans that would fund the Highway Trust Fund for years to come, but until then, have passed short-term bills.
Rep. Bill Schuster (R-PA) submitted a bill to the House of Representatives that offers another short-term solution that will provide funding to the Highway Trust Fund until November 20, 2015.
The House of Representatives are expected to vote and pass the bill Tuesday.
