MYRTLE BEACH, SC — The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a forum about seismic testing and offshore drilling. The Consumer Energy Alliance brough several representatives to speak on the topic, including Gary Steffans, the Regional Manager for Shell.
All the presenters had experience in seismic testing, offshore drilling, or marine science to explain to process from their perspective and its impact on the community.
Many that oppose offshore drilling oppose the potential harm to the environment and marine life.
Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce President Brad Dean said the goal of the briefing was to gather more information about the process and how it may affect tourism.
Michael Whatley, Executive Vice President for Consumer Energy, also spoke about his support to offshore drilling for the economic development.
The Consumer Energy Alliance’s plan covers an area from the Virginia through Georgia coast and is at least 50 miles away from the coast.
