MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (WBTW) – A Horry County non-profit wants to remind you about homeless teens in our area, volunteers used a 3K walk along the Murrells Inlet marshwalk Saturday morning.
The walk is called, Homeless not Hopeless, organizers with Sea Haven Street Outreach use it to spread awareness of youth homelessness and raise money for the organization.
Sea Haven has four different programs throughout Horry County and serves people under 21 years old.
Around 200 young people come through Sea Haven’s doors each year, the group focuses on meeting their immediate needs like getting a shower or even something to eat.
“Those youth that we see are in desperate of different things. For clothes, for hygiene products, and also speak to a counselor. We have those things set up for them, but if we don’t get these funds then the center will close down and we won’t be able to provide the services to the youth in the area,” said Antquan Smith, the program director.
A Sea Haven volunteer came up with the idea for the annual walk and hold it the last Saturday of October.
