WASHINGTON (MEDIA GENERAL) – A month after automaker Volkswagen admitted their vehicles were designed to cheat on emissions tests, the Environmental Protection Agency is also accusing Porsche and Audi of the same scheme.
In a statement released on Monday, the EPA said Porsche, Audi, and Volkswagen installed defeat devices on diesel models of vehicles produced for 2014-2016. Both Porsche and Audi are owned by parent company Volkswagen.
“VW has once again failed its obligation to comply with the law that protects clean air for all Americans,” said Cynthia Giles, Assistant Administrator for the Office for EPA’s Enforcement and Compliance Assurance. The CEO of Volkswagen of North America testified to Congress on October 8 just weeks after the company apologized for bypassing EPA standards.
“These events are deeply troubling. I did not think that something like this was possible at the Volkswagen Group. We have broken the trust of our customers, dealerships, and employees, as well as the public and regulators.” said Michael Horn, CEO of Volkswagen of North America in a letter released last month.
Newly released diesel models include:
— 2014 VW Touareg
— 2015 Porsche Cayenne
— 2016 Audi A6 Quattro, A7 Quattro, A8, A8L, and Q5
