BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WTNH)– Kyle Navin, 27, made his first court appearance in Bridgeport on two counts of murder in the deaths of his parents, Jeanette and Jeffery Navin on Tuesday. Navin has been behind bars on federal gun charges. Monday his girlfriend was in court charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

Navin’s attorney, Eugene Riccio, says it is just the start of the criminal process.

“It’s not a trial, and I think experience has taught all of us that we have to reserve our judgement about the situations until all of the facts are known,” said Riccio.

Last Thursday bodies of Jeffery and Jeanette Navin were discovered in the yard of a vacant home in Weston. Court documents show the Navin’s were planning on selling their trash hauling business and cutting Kyle out of their will. Those documents show dozens of text messages between Kyle and his girlfriend, Jennifer Valiante.

Kyle’s text to Jennifer:

“We need to figure out what the best way to take them down whether it is to get some money out of them somehow (expletive) him at the business the house something we got to figure out I’m got to be real smart and do it quick.”

Police also found Kyle’s parents’ DNA in several places where he is believed to have been around the time of their disappearance. According to an arrest warrant, detectives “seized a LiftMaster” garage door opener from the residence of the Navin’s. The opener contained a “bloodlike stain.”

“The blood like stain found on the LiftMaster garage door opener is consistent with Jeanette Navin being the source of the DNA profile.”

According to the arrest warrant, the homeowner was cleaning up the wooded property on Norfield road when he discovered the bodies. The warrant states the homeowner was moving debris when he found, “a blue tarp with silver duct tape.” Inside the tarp were human bones. Also found on the property were “dark colored plastic contractor bags taped together.” The affidavit alleges Kyle Navin used silver duct tape to wrap his mother in a blue tarp and used put his father in contractor bags. J&J Refuse T-shirts were found with the bodies.

Locals still can’t believe their neighborhood was centered around a crime scene.

Kim Grogan said, “It’s horrible It’s a horrible tragety. I feel horrible for the family.”

Ann Bieber added, “I wasn’t surprised but I was hoping they would find the Navins so the family would have some closure so that they would have peace.”

Navin’s bail is set at $2.5 million. His next court date is November 24th.
