MULLINS, SC (WBTW) – On Wednesday, many living in Mullins were hit with some unexpected flooding from the rain.
The water was feet high and some residents were forced to evacuate from their homes.
Some that News13 talked to say yesterday’s floods were worse than the ones we experienced last month.
For Mullins resident Wanda Pittman the last 24 hours has been anything but easy.
“I just got shook up. I just got shook up. I ain’t over it. I mean it was just coming and coming and coming and coming,” she said.
Her life, just like her apartment was flipped upside down.
“Yes it is. Yes it is. It’s messed up right now,” Pittman mentioned.
Wednesday, News13 spoke with Pittman as feet of water crept in her home. Many of her belongings sat outside of her place on Thursday.
“It’s only all these apartments right here. The rest of them ain’t anything happen to them. I don’t if it’s the drains or water,” she stated.
In 2012, Marion County received a $500,000 Community Block Grant for a drainage project from the state. The county was one of 28 counties to receive money.
“I don’t think that project has any impact on the flooding that we experienced. It’s in a different location,” explained Mullins City Administrator David Hudspeth.
According to Marion County Administrator Tim Harper, the grant was used to fix the drainage system in southwest Mullins.
That particular area is away from where many were affected on Wednesday.
Hudspeth noted that with creeks and streams being full essentially there is nowhere for the water to go.
He says the city is working to see how people in the area can qualify for assistance from this storm.
