Have You Heard, today (11//6) marks 50 years since The Rolling Stones hit the top of the American charts for the second time.
“Get Off My Cloud” followed up the Stones’ first number-one U.S. hit, “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” which topped the charts in July of 1965.
In all, the Rolling Stones had eight number-one hits in the U.S. and eight in the U.K., although the eight were not all the same.
In fact, the two mentioned above, as well as “Paint It Black” and “Honky Tonk Woman,” were the only four that went to the top on both charts.
Today marks 155 years since Abraham Lincoln’s victory in the 1860 presidential election.
William McKinley won his second term 40 years later (11/6/1900).
Both presidents were assassinated. McKinley was 58 when he died. Lincoln was 56.
Dr. James Naismith was born 154 years ago today, in Lincoln’s first year as president.
On that same day (11/6/1861), Jefferson Davis was elected president of the Confederate States of America.
Two-time Academy Award-winning Best Actress (“Norma Rae” and “Places in the Heart”) Sally Field is 69 today.
20 years ago today, Art Modell announced his Cleveland Browns were moving to Baltimore to become the Ravens.
Adolphe Sax was born 201 years ago today. He invented the saxophone and today is “Saxophone Day”!
