CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, SC (WBTW) – Cheraw High School will come together Friday night to gather in support of a classmate in a coma after a car collision on her way to school, school officials report.
Brooke Rohleder, a teacher at Cheraw High School, says Lindsey Griggs was badly injured when she struck the back of a trash truck on her way to school this week. Griggs was airlifted to Charlotte, NC where it was discovered she suffered two broken ankles, and a five inch crack in her skull.
The Cheraw High School cheerleaders were scheduled to leave Wednesday for a competition, but traveled to Charlotte instead, to be by Griggs’ side.
Griggs will remain in a medically induced coma for seven to 10 days for relief of brain swelling, Rohleder reports. The students and staff will gather at the school’s gym Friday evening at 7:30 in support of Griggs’ healing and return. Rohleder says the school is also wearing purple, Griggs’ favorite color, to show support. Students and staff will create a well wishes book for the beloved cheerleader, student and friend.
