MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) – A strong stance on terrorism was a major focus of Texas Senator and presidential hopeful Ted Cruz at a campaign stop in Myrtle Beach Sunday.

Nearly 1,000 people went out to Ocean Bay Middle School. The rally was originally scheduled for a smaller venue but had to be changed to accomodate the overwhelming response the candidate is getting in the palmetto state.

Cruz used the stop to challenge the Obama administration’s plan on bringing refugees into the United States from war torn Syria.

“We know there are likely ISIS terrorists among them, the idea that we would bring in muslim refugees who our intelligence can’t tell if they’re here to wage jihad, that doesn’t make any sense. That’s not the best response for anyone looking out for the best interests of America,” said Cruz.

Cruz’s schedule has his next stops in the Hilton Head area and Charleston Monday as part of his South Carolina campaign.
