Former Academic Magnet Football Coach, Bud Walpole, has filed a lawsuit against the Charleston County School District.
Walpole says the district violated his civil rights.
Former superintendent, Dr. Nancy McGinley, fired Walpole and then re-hired him amid a watermelon celebration controversy.
An investigation found that Academic Magnet players drew faces on the watermelons and smashed them while making “ape-like chants.”
In the lawsuit, Walpole alleges that the district racially discriminated against him.
