MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A homeless shelter in Myrtle Beach reopened its doors to people in need after several months of renovations.

New Directions took over operations of the Myrtle Beach Haven site back in August, and now all of the homeless shelters in the city are run by one organization.

Over $70,000 in renovations and repairs went into New Directions for Families. The newly renovated facility is specifically to house families in need.

“You can combine women and children, but when theres a full intact family, a family with a dad, we certainly want them to have a separate family room,” said Executive Director, Kathy Jenkins.

Jenkins took News13 on a tour on its first full day open and says the shelter is not for permanent residents, but a short-term solution to help people get back on their feet.

“People who have found themselves in a bad situation and their homeless, whatever the reason is, we want you to come and help you get back on your feet,” said Jenkins.

The shelter has more than 50 brand new beds looking to be filled. You can help with its need for canned goods by calling (843) 808-9948.
