MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Washington Wizards star Ramon Sessions was in Myrtle Beach Sunday, to host his annual turkey drive.
Its the fifth striaght year the NBA player has organized a turkey drive for his hometown.
They gave away 300 turkeys in the Racepath community ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.
Sessions flew into town Sunday morning, and brought the Myrtle Beach boys basketball team off the bench to help give out the birds.
“It”s a good thing seeing everybody happy, handing out turkeys so everyone can have a good Thanksgiving,” said senior Adam Zam.
Volunteers with the Boys & Girls Club also dished out bags of groceries.
“Our job was to give people all their food to make sure they have a happy Thanksgiving,” said volunteer Leajah Favorite.
“I enjoy what he’s doing for the community,” said John Bland, who picked up a turkey and all the fixings.
For Sessions, and his mom Ann, it was especially important to give back after seeing his hometown hit by historic floods.
“It was huge here. I mean my grandmas house got pretty bad. We had to get them out of the house, but I mean its always something when you can come back and put smiles on peoples faces. Have them forget about things for a moment and just enjoy,” said Sessions.
He also says he wants to inspire the next generations success story.
“I was one of those guys who had a big dream, coming from Myrtle Beach, a lot of people didn’t believe in me and to be here nine years later its a blessing,” said Sessions.
Session also holds a Christmas drive in the city every December.
