MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – A travel warning has been issued as many people prepare to fly or drive to their holiday destination for Thanksgiving.
The State Department says terrorist groups continue to plan attacks in multiple regions worldwide and that could affect the holiday travel plans of many Americans.
It couldn’t come at a worse time. AAA calls Thanksgiving the “busiest travel holiday season of the year,” and although most people hit the road, quite a few take to the sky.
The Myrtle Beach International Airport was relatively quiet on Tuesday, with the busiest travel typically being Wednesday and the TSA says travelers can expect extra security checks.
The State Department put out the travel warning after the Paris attacks, and the threat of an attack in Brussels. Federal officials say known terrorist groups continue to plan attacks around the world.
The TSA hasn’t changed any rules for getting on your flight, but they want you to be vigilant; and get to the airport at least two hours before take off.
News13 met a woman at MYR who took the advice on her way home to Canada.
“Well, everything on the news said the lines are going to be longer. Security clearance was going to take longer, so we wanted to make sure we got here with plenty of time. We got here and it was deserted,” said Susan Webster.
AAA expects more than 46,000 South Carolinian’s to fly over the Thanksgiving week with the busiest day coming up on Sunday.
