GOLDSBORO, N.C. — Two people died on Monday during an industrial incident at a transformer plant in Wayne County, authorities say.
The incident happened at SPX Transformer Solutions Inc. at 2701 US-117 in Goldsboro around 6 p.m., the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office told WNCN.
The incident was first discovered when a worker who was performing tasks in a very large transformer was found unresponsive.
Then, two more workers entered the transformer to help, but those two workers then became unresponsive, the sheriff’s office said.
Two of the three workers died and another was taken to a nearby hospital.
It’s not clear what caused the workers to die, officials say. The incident is under investigation.
