PAWLEYS ISLAND, SC (WBTW) – Georgetown County officials responded to an area off Springs Avenue in Pawleys Island Tuesday afternoon after receiving a report that a body was seen floating in a creek.

Georgetown County Chief Deputy Coroner Paulette Radcliffe confirms the coroner’s office was called to investigate when a body was discovered near 746 Springs Avenue around 3 p.m. Tuesday. Radcliffe identifies the body as that of missing woman Clementine Byrd, 73, of Georgetown.
Georgetown deputies report the last time anyone saw Byrd was around 4:30 p.m. on Monday as she left a neighbor’s home. Deputies add someone found Byrd’s car, a 2009 Toyota Camry, on the north end of Pawleys Island around 7 a.m. Tuesday.
The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office is investigating Byrd’s death. The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office along with Midway Fire Rescue responded to the call when the body was discovered.
An autopsy has been scheduled for 4:45 p.m. at Grand Strand Hospital.
