Police in North Carolina say a wanted sex offender from Colorado – using the identity of his deceased brother – was found and arrested in North Carolina.
Mark Allen Rawson, 53, was arrested Monday in Marion by U.S. Marshals.
The McDowell County Sheriff’s Office says Rawson was wanted in Texas for failing to register as a sex offender. Deputies say he was also wanted in Colorado for two counts of felony probation violation. Rawson was on state probation in Colorado for sexual exploitation of a minor.
U.S. Marshals say Rawson had been using the identity of his deceased brother – Robert Charles Rawson – after leaving Colorado. Marshals say Robert Charles Rawson died in a fire in Phoenix, Arizona in 1974.
Rawson had acquired a driver’s license in his brother’s name after traveling to Texas and Tennessee.
He had been working in North Carolina for a year according to the sheriff’s office when his true identity was revealed after he received a traffic citation.
Mark Rawson was arrested at his home in Marion. He’s being held in the McDowell County Jail pending his extradition hearings in U.S. Magistrate Court in Asheville.
