A Spartanburg County woman accused of trying to kidnap an ex-boyfriend turned herself in and now authorities are searching for her vehicle which she claims was stolen by a man who fled the state with her, authorities said.
Freda Lambert-Smith turned herself into the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office Thursday, December 10 after arriving from Caldwell County, North Carolina. Her surrender came just a few hours after investigators released new pictures of her jeep.
Lt. Kevin Bobo with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office says Lambert-Smith tried to kidnap an ex-boyfriend December 4 and hired two men for what she called a prank. The attempted kidnapping victim shot the men and Lambert-Smith fled the scene.
Along the way, investigators say, she picked up Victor Hartley at a Waffle House near Highway 176 in Spartanburg County. Lambert-Smith says Hartley, who is currently on probation, stole her jeep while they were both in North Carolina.
Hartley is from Caldwell County, Lt. Bobo said.
Lambert-Smith was currently out on bond after being charged with attempted murder and weapons charges after authorities say she held the same ex-boyfriend at gunpoint last September and then shot him when he tried to flee. Lambert-Smith has waived bond in this new case.
