She says the holidays are a popular time for parents to consider giving a child his or her first cell phone.
During her appearance on News13 NOW Friday, Morin gave tips that parents should keep in mind when making that decision.
First, she says make sure your child is mature enough to handle the responsibility of a cell phone. She says the child should be able to understand and follow rules and resolve conflict on his or her own.
Morin suggests parents give their child the same model phone that they have. Morin says that allows parent teach their kids what they know, then learn from their kids later on.
Morin suggests teaching your children cell phone and social media etiquette that sets rules to follow. She also advises creating a written contract that describes the rules.
