GALIVANTS FERRY, SC (WBTW) – Horry County Police became involved after receiving phone calls and photos of a deceased dog suspended by his hind legs from a fence. The photo was taken on Hughes Landing Road.
According to the incident report, the dog had been placed on the private property entrance to a hunting club.
Chad Dorris spotted the dog while driving towards the river landing. He immediately snapped a photo and posted it to Facebook.
“I don’t know, I just didn’t feel it was right,” he said.
A cardboard sign next to the deceased read:
“His name was Lamonte. Try calling his name or calling me next time. He couldn’t read that well.”
Horry County Police Lt. Rick Bonney says the sign was probably referencing the dog not being able to read a no trespassing sign.
“This is a very common dispute between hunters that don’t use dogs and hunters that do use dogs,” explained Lt. Bonney.
Lt. Bonney says they don’t know how the dog died. The responding officer wrote in the incident report that he suspected the dog was hit by a car.
“That’s an inappropriate way to dispose of the dog no matter what the situation was,” said Bonney
Dorris is just happy his kids weren’t in the car when he found the dog and says whoever put the dog’s body on display should be punished.
“I teach my kids, you know, dogs are family and for them to run into something like that it would be horrific for them. You start letting things like that pass by, then it’s going to be happening more than you want it to,” he stated.
Lt. Bonney says they don’t know who the dog’s owner is or who put him on the fence. If you have any information, you’re asked to call Horry County Police (843 )915-TIPS.
