CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Bond was revoked Wednesday for the man Horry County Police arrested in connection with a November Conway shooting, who was out on bond for murder charges.
Police say 21-year-old Christopher Brown of Conway is charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon by person convicted of violent felony, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. These crimes were allegedly committed by Brown while he was out on bond for murder and kidnapping charges.
Wednesday afternoon, Brown’s bond was revoked in connection with the murder and kidnapping charges, and the accused killer was also denied bond on the November attempted murder charge.
The shooting that led to Brown’s attempted murder charge happened November 6. Police said it started with an argument in a Burger King drive-thru window. The man who was shot said Brown followed him from the restaurant to D Street and Rose Moss Road, where the shooting happened.
Brown and another man are charged with murder and kidnapping following the disappearance of Zach Malinowski of Aynor in 2013.
Malinowski’s mother questions how Brown and the other man were issued bond after being charged with murder and kidnapping.
“If for one second in my heart, if we think that there’s somebody that can hurt somebody else in our community, why are they not kept in jail,” Melissa Jordan questions.
A Circuit Court Judge issued Brown’s bond in May and he posted bond in June. The bond stipulates he could not have any contact with the Malinowski family, had to abide by a curfew and had to be in contact with his attorney on a regular basis.
Now to know just two years later another family is suffering, Jordan says it adds more stress on her family.
“It was devastating, absolutely devastating, to me yesterday to know that another kid was shot and had to have surgery and now his parents are having to go through this,” Jordan said.
As this case moves forward, Jordan would like to use her son’s story to help others in the community.
“I just think that us as a community as people we need to start asking these questions. Why are these people getting out of jail?” Jordan demands.
Police arrested Brown last Thursday and he is in jail at J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
Brown will appear before a Circuit Court Judge on December 16 where the state will ask that his bond be revoked because of the
recent charges against him under the guidelines he is a danger to the community.
Solicitor Jimmy Richardson says Malinowski’s trial will start March of 2016. The family says they hope to get the answers they’ve waited more than two years for.
“Zach is gone and we can’t bring him back, but I would hope that one day they can find it in their hearts to at least tell us where Zach is so that we can bury him,” Jordan said.
