CONWAY, SC (WBTW) – Bond was revoked Wednesday for the man Horry County Police arrested in connection with a November Conway shooting, who was out on bond for murder charges.
Police say 21-year-old Christopher Brown of Conway is charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon by person convicted of violent felony, and possession with intent to distribute marijuana. These crimes were allegedly committed by Brown while he was out on bond for murder and kidnapping charges.
A bond issued in June that the family of Zachary Malinowski said should have never been issued.
“Anybody that is accused and indicted by the Grand Jury for kidnapping should be kept in jail to keep our community safe,” Melissa Jordan said.
At Wednesday’s hearing, Brown’s defense team said the Malinowski case is full of hearsay and nothing directly links Brown to the case except for the fact that he knew Zach. The prosecutor denied that claim stating they have cell-phone pings and evidence.
“It’s very frustrating. We also have a witness where the young man went out bragging. It will all come out in court,” Jordan predicts.
Brown’s attorney also argued the Conway shooting case started with an altercation and police may have overcharged Brown by solely going by the victim’s statement.
The Malinowski family and members of the Conway shooting victim spoke and said to allow Brown out on bond again would be unacceptable.
“He is a menace to society, a career criminal. It just keeps adding up and adding up. When are they going to stop him and keep him there,” Jordan questions.
Wednesday afternoon, Brown’s bond was revoked in connection with the murder and kidnapping charges, and the accused killer was also denied bond on the November attempted murder charge. This is after Brown’s attorney said they would be open to home detention since he is a lifelong resident and works at the Solid Waste Authority.
The Malinowski trial will begin in March of 2016.
