MYRTLE BEACH – Myrtle Beach ended the first half on a 17-3 run and held on late to beat Christ the King 57-52 in the opening round of the CresCom Bank Holiday Invitational Thursday.
The Seahawks (10-0) trailed 16-10 with under nine minutes left in the half before putting together their run to take a 27-19 lead into halftime. Myrtle Beach never trailed in the second half, although Christ the King (3-2) pulled within two with 1:19 left.
Keocia Walker and Kiana Adderton each scored 15. Nia Sumpter pulled down 13 rebounds. The Seahawks will play either Archer (Ga.) and Spartanburg in the second round Saturday at 5:45 p.m.
