COLUMBIA, SC (WBTW) – A Myrtle Beach man came home to $100,000.
He bought the winning Powerball ticket before leaving on vacation, not realizing he won until he got back. His ticket for the Saturday, December 5 drawing, purchased from the Kangaroo convenience store on Oleander Drive, missed the jackpot by one number.
“I can’t complain,” he said. “Retirement is going to be sweeter.”
The winner benefited in a big way from changes that occurred to the Powerball game in October, according to lottery officials. This time last year, his prize would have only been $20,000 for matching four white ball numbers and the red Powerball number with PowerPlay.
The odds of matching four white ball numbers and the red Powerball number are 1 in 913,129. The odds of a 2X multiplier being selected are 1 in 1.79.
For selling the claimed ticket, Kangaroo in Myrtle Beach received a commission of $1,000.
The estimated jackpot for Saturday night’s drawing is $202 million.
