MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) Some lucky movie goers got a special seat mate to watch the blockbuster hit “Star Wars, The Force Awakens” Saturday at Market Common.
Smiles all around as fans posed for a Galactic photo before heading inside to see the show.
The costumes from the Carolina Garrison of the 501st Legion and Blue Ridge Base of the Rebel Legion are perfect. The details are oh so intricate. That’s what it takes to be a member of this group.
The 501st actually started in Columbia in the late 90’s and has now stretched galaxy wide.
Every member makes their own costume which they say has to be better than screen accurate to be approved. In conjunction with Lucas Films they’ve been at theaters all over the country this weekend adding a little extra fun to the premiere.
The main purpose of the group is charity work. Everyone is a volunteer and many times the events they go to help raise money for organizations like Make-A-Wish.
Saturday they were the welcoming party for fans both young and young at heart. They say their favorite part is giving back to the loyal fans of the franchise and seeing the smiles on their faces as a galaxy far far away is suddenly very very real.
