CARY, N.C. — Two women were found dead in Cary after a man contacted police and told them he murdered the victims on Sunday, Cary Police said Sunday evening.
“The Town of Cary Police Department has taken a suspect into custody after he told police that he murdered his mother and girlfriend in Cary,” police said in a press release.
At about 3:41 p.m., Brandon Lee, age 34, of 24203 Havers Drive in Cary called police “claiming he had killed his mother and his girlfriend,” police said.
Police then confirmed the deaths of two women, one on Havers Drive and another on Parktop Drive, police said.
On Sunday night, police said Lee was charged with two counts of murder for the deaths of Christa Lee, age 58, of Havers Drive and Krystal Juell Hylton, age 28, of Parktop Drive.
According to criminal arrest records, Brandon James Lee has been arrested three times in the Raleigh area since late August. Lee’s most recent arrest was on Monday — just 6 days ago — on charges of first degree trespassing and communicating threats, according to records.
Around mid-afternoon Sunday, several Cary Police units were seen by WNCN gathering at a scene and collecting evidence at the Lofts at Weston Lakeside Apartments on Parktop Drive.
The case marks Cary’s fourth and fifth murders in 2015. Cary’s last murder before Sunday was reported on Thursday, and is still being actively investigated, police said.
A woman who lives at Lee’s apartment complex on Sunday spoke about the killing that took place in the area.
“We’ve been here for a year and a half, a little over a year and a half actually, and we’ve never heard of anything like this before. We feel absolutely safe, we know who our neighbors are,” said Sonika Rawal, who lives in the Legacy at Crossroads Apartment complex.
“I don’t know what to think at this point, but it definitely scares me,” she added.
Lee has since been transported to the Wake County Public Safety Center in Raleigh for processing.
“At what is regarded as one of the most joyous times of the year, our hearts are full of sorrow for what are now three Cary families and their friends who are suffering the incredibly tragic loss of their loved ones,” said Police Chief Tony Godwin. “We are vigorously and tirelessly investigating each case, and justice will be brought to bear.”
