SPARTANBURG, SC – The holidays are a time meant for spreading happiness and cheer, but one teenager made a donation to The Salvation Army for a child, only to learn later that it was stolen.

Spartanburg Police are pointing the finger at a store employee.

Two weeks ago, a teenage boy donated his Xbox One and TV to The Salvation Army in Spartanburg for their angel tree program, benefiting underprivileged children during the holidays.

According to police reports, 27 year old Salvation Army employee Darius Gardener took those items.

Captain Donald Marvels says he never expected an employee to do something like that.

“This is an isolated incident, it’s unfortunate that it happened.  However, the trust that the Salvation Army has for the donors in this community, we will continue to do the best work that we can do for this community,” says Cpt. Marvels.

Spartanburg Police say a judge granted a warrant for a breach of trust on gardener.  As of right now, the stolen items have not been located.
