MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)- The Myrtle Beach Community Appearance Board held final review for a new 46,564 square foot Walmart Neighborhood Market Store with 1,440 square foot fuel station on Thursday afternoon.
The store will be a part of new shopping center on Farrow Parkway and Highway 17 Bypass. The shopping center will also include a 9,800 square foot one-story retail building with a 450 square foot porch and 10,520 square foot one-story retail building.
Those who live along Farrow Parkway are excited about the recent additions to the area.
“It’s been phenomenal to see all the growth and development of the single family homes and town homes and now some luxury apartments so that’s a great sign of the economy recovering and people discovering the market common area,” Carl Sivertsen said.
Sivertsen has lived in the area 2 years now and has seen many projects start and finish. Although, he likes the growth, he is skeptical about the latest addition.
“A gas station and a Walmart combination is not really a great entrance feature. If it was elsewhere in the community it might work much better. One of my concerns is the appearance of people who get off the highway,” Siversten added.
City officials say the new shopping center will include site improvements to roads, new parking lots with landscaping plans, and a new 235 linear foot masonry wall.
The goal is for the stores to serve as a buffer to The Market Common and will feature similar designs.
Walmart representatives say the store will open next year and will bring 95 jobs to Myrtle Beach.
