COLUMBIA, SC (WBTW) – The South Carolina Education Lottery reports nearly a half a billion dollars is on the line in this weekend’s Mega Millions and Powerball drawings, one or more lucky lottery players could celebrate the New Year with a jackpot-size bang.
Friday, Mega Millions players have the chance to win a $130 million annuity worth $80 million if claimed as a lump sum.
Saturday night, Powerball players have a shot at a $334 million annuity worth $205 million cash.
Lottery officials say the odds of winning the jackpot playing Mega Millions are 1 in 259 million and 1 in 292 million for Powerball.
Including the jackpot, however, there are nine ways to win a prize playing each game – including prizes of $1 million or more. So players should remember to check their tickets carefully.
