SALISBURY, N.C. (AP) – Police say a man was robbed of his vehicle at gunpoint while he was trying to help a woman who was pretending to have car trouble.

According to the Salisbury Post, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that victim Todd Motley pulled into a parking lot Sunday morning in order to help 19-year-old Blanca Alejandre, who said she had experienced car trouble while she was driving to see her baby.

Motley says he was about to drive Alejandre to her home, but an armed, masked man then approached him and stole his pickup truck.

Police say the stolen vehicle was found abandoned shortly thereafter in Salisbury. Alejandre was later arrested, as was Juan Alonso, who had authorities say had Motley’s wallet in his pocket.
