CLINTON, SC – Clinton Elementary Principal, Nancy Roland, confirms that an assignment was handed out to three 5th Grade classes about the KKK.
The assignment asked students to create a wanted poster for a KKK member. It also asked the students to make a sketch of what a KKK member would look like, describe 3 reasons they’re a bad guy, and a made up quote that someone might have said about that person. It also asked the students to write a reward for the capture of that KKK person.
Many parents reached out to us, sending us a photo of the assignment.
Roland says the students no longer have to complete the assignment.
Roland says the assignment was the teacher’s way of incorporating a topic into a larger lesson, but that she “doesn’t think the activity was quite appropriate for the content.”
