MYRTLE BEACH, SC- An estimated 10,000 Shriners will be in town this weekend for the South Atlantic Shrine Association Conference.
The annual Shriners Parade was held on Friday to raise money for crippled and burned children.
“If you’ve ever seen a shrine parade, you’ll see things, you’ll never see probably ever again,” said SASA President Edward Everhart.
Hundreds of clowns, a pirate ship and dozens of hillbillys rode down Ocean Boulevard. Police used barriers to keep the parade route clear.
Shriner Bill Fenners described the parade as a bunch of old guys, acting like kids, having a good time.
“The goal of a Shriner is to make money to give to our children and have a good time doing it and they do have a good time doing it, sometimes they have too goo of a time doing it,” he said.
The parade route runs from 12th Ave.S – 29th Ave. S. Organizers expect the event to last until 9 p.m.
The Shriners Association will also hold a concert Saturday night featuring Aaron Tippin at Pelican’s Stadium. All proceeds go towards Camp Ytiliba for burn victims. Click here to purchase tickets.
